I've wondered how long it would take to do something like this. Does anyone think that this is a hint about what may be coming?

FWI and I might have made a poor financial decision. Very nice!

Want. The lack of FWI is curious, though. I wonder if this was put together pre-FWI? Or maybe they just had some extra pre-FWI necks laying around and decided to use one of them up for this one-off because they can't use them in regular production runs anymore.

Maybe the body wings are some of the 4002 parts we have heard rumor of? Birdseye maple with black-over-checkerboard binding....

I think this was strongly hinted at recently.

That looks rather like the wood I have seen from 78, both on the 4002, and a couple of 4001 basses.

It's truly stunning wood, but personally speaking, I can't understand the logic of using premium grade wood, and then going back to the short inlays and non matching headstock wings. Black trim? Doesn't do it justice either, from my perspective.

This should have had the new full width inlays, two wonderful pieces of walnut for the headstock, a fretboard with killer grain, and possibly a toaster and RI HS P/U. If you are going to make a "full on" premium bass, (and this certainly should have been) don't get conservative on the back nine when you are ahead on par...

The fat horns support your suspicion. This one's from "The pallet".

The pickguard must also be new old stock. With the half-inch spacing and post-73 knobs layout, my guess is '74.

The BT surround/chrome handrest are a nice touch, like a Blackstar.

looks nice...I would play it anyway...looks almost like less than 1/2" spacing...more like pseudo cheyenne spacing...could be interesting...

I'm willing to bet this one has been sitting around for a while, and predates the FWIs.
