The last one-off was the recent 370-12, which started with a minimum bid of $3129 and sold @ $3600.buzfluhart wrote:Of all the one offs the RIC outlet has offered, is the first with a reserve price? I can't recall on the others.

Wow, this one is a beaut. Kudos, RIC, and thanks for the additional info, Ben. As I suspected.

My thoughts exactly, John.johneek wrote:I've wondered how long it would take to do something like this. Does anyone think that this is a hint about what may be coming?

Ben said people will flip out. Offering BT again doesn't seem like that big of a "flip" to me... No, I'm betting he meant something else entirely.
Re: i think you all need to see THIS!!!
Definitely some 4002 in there. I'm waiting for an experimental shade that drives me nuts. For that I would be all in. Nice to get that kind of quality piece, with provenance and a warranty. I'm guessing $3500-4000
Re: i think you all need to see THIS!!!
That would make me consider buying something other than used. Now the question is, one only or is this going to be a factory issue? That is as close to the "v68" as we can get for now...I am no fanboy so can we expect this to be in production or one and done???johnallg wrote:OH MY STARS!!!!![]()

It looks like walnut sap wood to me.And I think those are walnut head wings, just very light ones.
This bass is very interesting. It's not for me, but I think it's great that Rick brings something like this out every once in a while! It sure would be fun to be the one that puts the parts together!
Good job Rick!

This must be the one that Ben mentioned in this thread

It's interesting that it's been sitting in his office for a year and a half, but it's listed in the auction as a 2009 model. I guess this is OK since it's coming from the factory. I wonder if it got a new serial number plate with a 2009 number, maybe it's been in Ben's office all this time without a number?RIC_FACTORY wrote:One off bass? I've had one in my office for a year and a half that I just keep forgetting about. You could say it's really for the birds!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: i think you all need to see THIS!!!
This is pretty close to what I would build if I had all those wonderfrul materials at my disposal.
This must be the first BT with walnut wings, no?
I like this one alot
Looks like it has great vibe

And in case anyone is curious, the reserve of $2,222.22 has been met.
Re: i think you all need to see THIS!!!
This bass is awesome on so many levels. Hands-down my favorite Ric-outlet one-off so far. There's nothing I'd change about it, except maybe the fat horns. I even like the short inlays. A work of art.

OK, I've thought about it to no avail and I gotta ask...Ben, I know you guys at RIC sometimes do things for reasons that are not immediately obvious to us outsiders, or even downright puzzling. From the business standpoint, is there a reason you can tell us for that beautiful bass to be languishing for a year and a half in your office?RIC_FACTORY wrote:One off bass? I mean, you said you keep forgetting about it, so it probably wasn't there for inspiration...maybe you just didn't have any place else to keep it? I know that if it were mine it wouldn't be in it's case unless traveling to and from a gig. I would have it proudly displayed...

Re: i think you all need to see THIS!!!
Remember that a lot of times they might make something as a tester or experiment and then forget about it because they have a bunch of others. Remember the dumpster bass? Same thing. It will be around and there are probably a bunch more that are only known to the employees. It is fun to see experiments...To me, there is a subtle message in this but I am keeping mum for now...
