Mark – Yep, Angular Momentum was in the third set – we nailed that one – bass pedals work nice there (that’s why I’m in stocking feet – can play them too well with shoes on)! The wife is in there as well (on the left)… sorta my inspiration kind of thing. Make me think of beautiful things.

Scott B – thanks, I know you are talking about the basses not the thing the straps are hanging over ‘lookin good’.

Scott P - the ABUs are from my brother-in-law’s brother. They did a tour in Iraq with him… I’m very proud to have ‘em. He has ‘expanded’ a bit after getting out. A real nice guy.

Joey - Everything sounded good. The eight is huge! Gotta get into a venue where I can let it scream. The place was very small (see the RRF Gig forum there is a shot of the band). So equipment and volume were limited. That 8 conversion is one of the best things I ever did (next to buying my first Ric).

Thanks all for the kind words!

Thanks Paul... I think Dane hit it on the head with the headstock design. I can actually get the TRC off without de-stringing (did spring neck adjustment to it last week). No real head-dive that a little strap friction won’t take care of. The thing plays like a dream, sounds great and is 4004 light! Bruce did a fantastic job executing the design.... Dane (with his great eye for form) had Bruce tweek the headstock to keep the 4004 ‘look’.

If Rickenbacker ever gets a notion to do the 8string again - they should take a serious look at this set up. I am loving it!

LoneStarCafe.jpg

Me in 1983 at the Lone Star Cafe in New York City (12th St & 5th Ave). Featuring many greats in modern music history in the 70's -80's (not my band!) the LSC closed in the 90's.

My band was the weekly 'Rockabilly' band on Wednesdays (when that genre was hot - 1982-1983). We were mentioned in Newsweek along with the Stray Cats and others.

This venue had Bob Dylan, Jorma Koukonen (Hot Tuna), and the Osmond Brothers appearing on that stage the week the photo was taken. It was primarily a country/western place but was very inclusive!

Later my band gigged 'back-up' to Carl Perkins, Marshall Crenshaw, Dave Edmunds, and Nona Hendryx - We were done by '84.

My old lefty '75 4001 is still with me (bought in NYC - Music Row) used in 1978 for $380.

Nice pics John and welcome.

Is that a Bartels and James wine cooler in the second photo? You might want to photo shop that out!

Nothing high-brow about this place... One step removed from a chicken wire stage... 8) But the crowd loves us - and that alone is rare, and worth the effort for me. They'll party till they fall down - and often just get back up and continue the party; from what I've heard they mix 'em strong here...Most nights, at least one person hits the floor from just being hammered. Either just falling off a barstool or while dancing, it can happen any time. Come on down, place your bets on who it'll be! :?
That sounds like fun!
My band will be at one of our favorite dive's this Saturday.

Quite the history lesson, John. Thanks for sharing. Being a new New York transplant, it's always interesting for me to hear about the NYC music scene from days gone by.

Welcome aboard John. '75 4001 - that's got to sound fantastic! Love the later 70s Ricks.
