Left-handed tuners?

Post by doctorwho »

After a lot of checking around, I still can't find a 3 X 3 set of left-handed Kluson (or Kluson-style) tuners for the restoration of my 310 JG LH. My questions are: (1) does such a set exist, and (2) if not, do I use a right-handed set and have the tuners work 'backwards'?

Any help will be appreciated, folks, as this is driving me nuts!    :D

This begs the question: where can I get left handed strings?

Are the Klusons the 'vintage' ones as fitted on 360v64s, 350v63s etc. Gary?

If so, I fitted a set of Gotoh locking tuners to my 360v64 that have the exact same footprint as the Klusons and are almost identical in appearance. I recall seeing a reference to left-handed guitars in the instructions, so if you want some more info I can provide you with the model number and the info regarding 'lefties'.

I bought the tuners sight unseen from an Australian dealer after a recommendation from an Aussie forumite and I can tell you, they are great!

At the same place that you'd get a left handed guitar strap.

Based upon my limited experience, I believe that you would have to "use a right-handed set and have the tuners work 'backwards." The only left-handed specific tuners I've ever seen are the "six-in-a-line" used by F****r.

Maybe Leftybass and/or Leftyguitars will chime in.

You used to be able to get them from RIC, but they don't take left handed orders anymore. :)

Everyone's always picking on us lefties... It's like they think we're sinister or something...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I'm glad you asked that Greg, because they are now having a weekend special. Buy a left handed amp and they will toss in (southpaw of course), a left handed guitar cable and some left handed picks for free.

Gary, they do exist for basses.....my '69 and '79 4001s both have left-handed Kluson tuners---they turn clockwise when tuning up to pitch. I have never seen a wavy Grover that was geared left-handed.....nor any guitar tuner other than on a Fender that could be had left-handed.
