Mastering the basics

Post by kiramdear »

I'm looking for tips on mastering my songs because I'm not too happy with my own job of it. Maybe I don't understand the difference between mixing and mastering and that's the problem. I thought my songs sounded weak on the last compilation CD, but I'm certain that it's not Mark's fault. What can I do better in order to really deliver the goods to the table?

You could really start anywhere because I'm not specialized at all. My songs are posted on my website (little icon below my avatar) and I can also provide all GarageBand and Logic files as well as CD quality mixes. Please be my guest :D

The Mastering part gets a bit confusing for me as well; I wish I could help with that. Good luck with it!

It's a lengthy read, but it might help.

Har, their very first suggestion is, "Have someone else master your music", "you are too close to your own music".

I'll read on for the heck of it, though I think we may have hit the nail on the head.

Check out one of the recent Music Tech Focus mags

www.musictechmag.co.uk

A recent issue was dedicated to mastering - comes with a CD. Quite expensive for a mag $19.00 Haven't gotten into it just yet so I can't say it's good or bad...

I actually read the majority of this mag on my way home from France yesterday. I believe there's a lot of value here
