Bob, what are your impressions of the Tak acoustic bass? I've looked at them before on their website and am wondering.

I think those things are called "note markers." It seems that people who don't have perfect pitch use those as a guide to play the correct notes. Some people are just funny that way!FretlessOnly wrote:That certainly is a nice quilted maple! But what are those parallel lines on the fingerboard for?

The bass plays OK I guess. I have never played another acoustic bass so I have nothing to compare it to. The built-in EQ is very sensitive and sometime if I bump the bass setting up a hair and turn a little too much toward the amp, I get some wicked feedback. I bought it just to have one. It looks good and it's fun to play once in a while.johnallg wrote:Bob, what are your impressions of the Tak acoustic bass? I've looked at them before on their website and am wondering.

I have an orange Waterstone TP 12 string bass that is really an eye grabber! I think an orange Rick would be killer!

Thanks, Bob. So far an ABG has been a curiosity item. I've tried two at GC, but since not one instrument there is ever set up at all, the ones I've tried have ridiculous action and not very encouraging. The Takamine 6-string I got for my daughter is a very nice instrument so I can imagine the bass would be of equal quality. Hmm....4003 wrote:The bass plays OK I guess. I got mine at GC during one of their crazy clearance sales. It was the floor model and I got it, a hard case, a few sets of stings, a strap, and some picks for cheap. As they say, it was an offer I couldn't refuse.johnallg wrote:Thanks, Bob. So far an ABG has been a curiosity item. I remember that the bass player from the Killer Dwarfs had a tiger-striped 4001... I'm pretty sure it's in the band photo on the back cover of the Big Deal album Sorry, I checked but couldn't find an image of the back. It was a lot of orange! And I remember wanting one just like it back in the day! Thank god I didn't do it though!

Whoa.... wonder if you could use that bass to play "the eye of the tiger"?

Oh man, my '72 is stripped and ready for repainting ... that tiger stripe looks pretty sweet ...

Years ago there was a guitar store at the corner of LaVeta and Main in the city of Orange, CA called 'The Orange Guitar'. The guy was a Rickenbacker dealer and I bought guitars from him from time to time. Behind a glass case that bore a sign 'NOT FOR SALE' was a 360 double bound like George's, but the most incredible Orange, yeah, just like fireglo but Orange! The store owner told me he ordered it from Rickenbacker to highlight his store and it did just that. Whose got that one now? Or did he keep it? Hmmmmm.....The plaza where his store was is all but a memory. A hospital stands there now.
