Rickenbacker as a weapon?

Post by Memphis Blue »

Really cool video of Gerry and The Pacemakers and the Everly Brothers...except at the 2:40 mark when Gerry whacks Don in the face with his Ric headstock. Ouch!

Yep. That was fun to see live in living B&W.

Gerry's '64 360/12 string was one of the best looking ever.

I read in Andy Babiuk's Beatles Gear book where Gerry actually sawed the top off the headstock off that guitar so it would fit inside a homemade case that he built for it! He said in the interview that the guitar is now in New Zealand. Does anyone have any recent pics of that guitar?

Can you imagine? Hacking away at your guitar so it fits into a case?

Jerry did indeed take the top edge off the headstock and the result could be seen on the Ed Sullivan Show appearance.

Also take note to the scaring around the sound hole in the following photo taken from the video that forms the basis of this thread. Jerry was hard on his guitars.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Could this be Gerry's 360/12? Check out the head!

According to this (https://www.rickenbacker.com/forum_view ... 20Marsden?) thread on the Rickenbacker corporate forums, it may very well be and was apparently last seen left in the back of a NYC taxi cab

It is hard to believe that someone would do that on purpose, just because it wouldn't fit it the case!!
