Your baby is absolutely gorgeous, John!
Re: WOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS "VERY RARE"
John,
That is the most beautiful (lefty) 4001 I've ever seen. I will gladly trade you any part of my anatomy for it, left arm, kidney...you get the picture. Man, I would love to own that one! How long have you had it? And if you don't mind sharing, where did you get it?
Thanks,
Rick

I'm actually a big fan of the righty headstock with the smiley-face TRC. Probably in the minority there.
Re: WOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS "VERY RARE"
It was sold to a dealer/friend at the Arlington show, and was made aware of it after another good friend passed on it (a fellow Forumite).....I saw it in person at the Philly show and decided that I had better get it. It is the only other 4001 LH I have seen from the 60's other than McCartney's S, and the only deluxe model. Not to say that they didn't make any more, but I've looked pretty hard for 30 years, and this one is it.Rick W wrote:John,

It has been refinished, but properly IMHO. Color is right for it's vintage, and the H/S p/up in it is an 80's reissue...YMMV. Who knows---the high gain it probably came with may have went bad. I think this pickup has been in the bass for some time.
At any rate, I hope someday to compare fine details of this bass in person with a minty original like Andy's '68, not made too far away from my lefty here from 4/1969. No R-O-S either, mono jackplate.
Re: WOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS "VERY RARE"
I grew up in Fort Worth and never missed a Dallas or Arlington show till I moved to Seattle in '97. I also try to schedule my visits back home around show time if possible. Regardless, that is one beautiful bass! Very cool..Thanks for sharing
