Well, there were some guitars (and one keyboard) that did get away, back in the mid-'90s, to buy an investment motorcycle. Then the bike went away when I moved to Brasil, and I replaced it again when I got back. So that's copacetic.
But the guitars and keys I'll probably never see again:
A 1977 Ibanez "lawsuit" Howard Roberts jazzbox, that was nicer than the "real" Gibson thing. I bought it new in'77, and have not seen another like it. It was all maple, deep burgundy, with gold hardware, arch top, oval sound hole, and lovely tone from its single neck-mounted mini-humbucker. Wish I had it back...
A 1970 Gibson Les Paul Personal in MINT condition. Gibson made very, very few of these--around 140 or so, spread unevenly over 3 years. Gold hardware, low-impedance pickups, decade tone switch, microphone jack on the upper bout, transformer in the line cord. Dark mahogany, and probably 13 pounds. Tone possibilities beaucoup. I miss it dearly, and have replaced it with one that needs a 100% resto. No time for that right now, unfortunately.
A '68 Jazzmaster; again, very nice. Block inlays, bound neck, coral pink custom color. Sold on to a guy in Basel, Switzerland.
The keyboard was one of the first ARP Quadras sold; bought new in '80 from David Abell in LA. I had it for about 15 years. Should have never sold it. They come up for sale very infrequently at silly prices, and are usually pretty beat. One of the last best analog synths with all sorts of great features. Unfortunately, not programmable with software, but it did have presets that could be saved.
Then there was the brown Tolex Fender Pro with a 15" JBL, from 1961 and also in perfect shape, along with a '63 tube reverb.
Regrets about all, but I'm not jumping off any bridges.
