I remember those Cowboy guitars. I don't know how people can take the art on these seriously. I've seen cool art on guitars before--this isn't it.

Yup, I fully agree.

Bad taste for sure. But isn´t that much worse:

At least the one who buys this ridiculous Martin can be proud of his unique bad taste and/or ignorance towards the things others might say. People who buy such "relic" instruments are trying to buy personality that they themselves lack. This is much worse in my opinion.

Re: ACK, ACK, ACK...
I took the factory tour at Martin in the early eighties...it was an unbelievably impressive operation. Old cats sitting at benches whacking chunks of wood off of future Martin necks by hand...it was just what you'd imagine you want to see in a guitar factory. But this...this 'thing'...I'm just glad the guys I saw working there aren't alive to see what's become of the company they devoted their lives to. It cracks me up to see it advertized on a website called 'Elderly Instruments'...maybe a little cross-marketing with 'Depends' is in order...
The 'paint job' looks a bit to me like it could make some work for Peter Max's legal team. It does remind me, though, of a time when it still seemed possible for the pink and purple people of the world to live together in harmony...
This little 'product' exhibits a cynical, crass commercialism that's 'out the ying-yang'...

Thanks, Dane.
You're the wayang to my waying.

Naw, they meant "ying-yang" because of the price ... one will be paying out the ying-yang for a worthless POS ...jingle_jangle wrote:... And what the hell's a "ying-yang" symbol? You don't suppose they could mean, "yin-yang", do you?

Re: ACK, ACK, ACK...
Does anybody else get the irony about them selling $1300 acoustic guitars to a "hippie" demographic?
As if any real hippie would shell out that kind of money for a corporate cartoon guitar. If you went stepped in a time machine and went to Golden Gate panhandle in June '67, anybody there would laugh at spending a few months wages (not like they had jobs!) on a guitar like that. Innnnnsane.
It's yet another example of these huge corporate companies cashing in on the almighty boomer dollar. Anybody who would buy one now was NOT there in the 60s, I'll put money on it...

Re: ACK, ACK, ACK...
That´s a real point, I think. But on the other hand: many of those people, who have thought they were hippies in the 1960s have the money to buy much more expensive guitars nowadays. We see the results everyday. Just watch the prices, that people pay for vintage Fenders, Gibsons, even Gretsch, Rickenbacker and Burns guitars on ebay everyday.collin wrote:Does anybody else get the irony about them selling $1300 acoustic guitars to a "hippie" demographic?

+1. There's a huge market these days for anything '60s as the baby boomers age, which drives the prices through the roof. It's reflected in the unprecedented amount of vintage reissues (and tacky hippie Martin guitars.)doctorno wrote: But on the other hand: many of those people, who have thought they were hippies in the 1960s have the money to buy much more expensive guitars nowadays. Now, now, everyone, let's all calm down and set our peepers on this for a moment:

Isn't that better? Mmmmmmm. As long as they keep doing them like this, Martin will keep my respect.

Looks like the new Austin Powers Model! A bit of whimsy if cool...just not for $1300.
Re: ACK, ACK, ACK...
That's one of the laminate top models. They sound OK, but just OK. You wouldn't want one after A-B-ing it with a real wood Martin like mine for just a few hundred more. The only one of the laminates that I found interesting was a cutaway semi-electric black one with a Mexican airplane propeller blade neck. Plugged in it was awesome for about a thousand bucks.

The costs are kept down because the back and sides are high-pressure laminate wood. I find these guitars sound excellent for the money.
