Putting a Rick back together

Post by old_skul »

Okay, so I bought this 620 neck/body from a friend, who got it off Ebay - from one of the notorious Rick parter-outers. I plan to restore this guitar to playable status.

My friend is letting me test-drive some toasters along with this body, and I've purchased, so far:

- Schaller M6 mini tuners
- Rick knobs
- Rick upper/lower pickguards
- Rick toggle switch knob

I already have some straplocks, and the guitar comes with a nut on it. Oh, and frets. Frets were included :)

So I need to get a few things:

- A Rick Jackplate (not looking to fake a serial # on this - just need something to mount my jacks into)
- A bridge & bridge cover
- A tailpiece (I want an R tailpiece if possible but will settle for a trapeze if I have to)
- A truss rod cover
- the proper screws to attach everything
- pickup pads?
- 330K pots...argh! I can't source these anywhere!

Again, guys, I'm not looking to make a fake and sell it. I'm looking to return this guitar to a playable state. I don't ever sell guitars - they enter my collection and don't come out until I'm dead. I play a lot of guitar between three different bands and just want to return this to its proper glory!

Where can I source the parts I need?

thanks!

Mark a post in Rickenbacker marketplace: wanted is the first step.

It may be better to buy the wiring harness off the guy on ebay that parts these things out...

I myself have contemplated doing the same thing as you are. The same guy has the body of a 1995 JG 330 for $699 us right now up on ebay.

I myself wouldn't buy the body unless I could also purchase the jackplate with serial number on it at the same time

He sells both usually at the same time. If you check the ric registry here under "butchered" guitars you will see that we on this site track which guitars the guy parts out. You may be able to figure out (from when your friend bought the carcass which SN would be correct for your guitar).

RIC itself sells all the parts (other then the TRC and jackplate) on its website. You can get a correct wiring harness there, or again watch ebay and see what comes up..

Good luck with your project!

The TRC and pickguard from the first one listed are currently sitting on my 1991 JG 610 I confess.

Thanks, you guys! This is awesome information.

My guitar is in the Registry - it's 0579862. So yeah, it's the NJ Butcher. Where can I find the jackplate? That'd be the obvious choice - even if I have to pay through the nose for it. This guy must be making bank, if he can take a brand new guitar and just part it out for a profit. What a business model!

I had planned on making my own wiring harness, and probably still will, since no one has the harnesses in stock and I can get these stupid 330k pots for the low, low price of $10 each from the Rick store. I'll probably get their silly stereo harness as well, even though I can pretty much guarantee that I'll never, ever use the stereo feature.
