Very nice! I can't remember if I ever tried to tackle that one. Bruce Thomas was all over the place, but they were great bass lines. They really added a lot to the songs. I remember playing along with many (Oliver's Army - nice name, BTW!). I also had gotten down "Accidents Will Happen."

Sometimes I'll pull up youtube and watch "High Fidelity" and some of the other golden oldies.

Some time ago I'd posted the "Possession" youtube video link, as I think it is the only video around with Costello playing a Ric guitar:

(It's got a "little" more mellow Bruce Thomas bass line)

Sounds great, Wes.

I don't know the guy's name, but EC has had a lot of great bass lines over the years.

I was really disappointed last time I saw him live though. The bass guy was playing beat-up old P-Bass through an SVT which should have sounded great, but it was just mush. I couldn't make out anything. That 8X10 may as well have been sitting in the deep end of a swimming pool!

This video doesn't have any outstanding bass in it, but it is one of my EC faves for other reasons:

Nice job, Wes. I never knew THAT is what a Horseshoe sounded like :D

One question...is that a 24-fret necked 330/6 MG in the background? Can you shed a little light on it, please? :)

wes---love love love it! bruce thomas-one of my fav-o-rite bassists,a shame he and ec aren't able to work together nowadays. my band used to play "lipstick vogue" from this album, and "what's so funny about p.l.u.". (quite a workout on a b.c.rich eagle bass for me)

hey jeff -- if you saw ec within the last couple of years,he is using a different bass player than bruce thomas, the guy on the old records..thats why he calls his band the imposters, instead of the attractions. bruce did play an old fiesta red p bass.......when i saw the new guy on a live from memphis dvd,he was using a telecaster? or possibly early p-bass,on most of the songs.

Ahhhhh....That must be what it was. Yes, it was the Imposters. I saw them twice actually. Once they were headlining and the other time they were warming up for the Rolling Stones. Both times I wasn't hearing any bass. And it was especially sad for me, 'cuz...although I like EC a lot, Bruce Thomas's bass playing is a HUGE part of the whole appeal for me.

Pump it Up, Watching the Detectives and so many other great bass-filled recordings...too bad!

Davey Faragher is the bassist for The Imposters. While he's no slouch, he is absolutely no Bruce Thomas.

Yucko, no 24-fret guitars for me. That's a '65 330, original MG but needs a new pickguard.

Classic 4001 tone on this one, very nice job. Do you still have the 365 or has the 330 replaced it?

Really nicely played and the Ric sounds amazing !

Its a great song and as many have said already Bruce Thomas was a huge part of Costellos sound. It isnt the same without him. I fortunately got chance to see him twice with The Attractions in the early/mid 90's when they reformed for a tour or two. They hate each other....a massive shame as BT has to be one of the most melodic and clever bass players ever. Agreed Davey Faragher is good but not even 50% of Bruce plus he comes with a lousy sound which gets lost in the mix. I believe EC gets on very well with him though. Pump it up is a song I play regularly and always enjoy it. We are just about to bring back Watching the Detectives and Whats so Funny.....cant wait !

I still have the OS. It's nice to have both, the stripped down model and the dressed up one. They actually feel and sound surprisingly different.
