Gotta add another "great job, Paul!" here.

Really a neat looking color. The "fresh" wood of the fretboard, and the clean inlays look great, too.
Does the owner have it back yet? He's probably climbing the walls in anticipation.

Oh yes, the treble pup surround...my Nov. '71 has slightly rounded edges, like halfway between later ones and totally squared off.

Terrific looking! The fretboard and detail on the frets is just icing on the great color of the body. Really too bad the Jazz rout couldn't have been filled in but with the longer guard, it is covered and looks appropriate too. Kudos to you and the owner.

Fantastic job! Was the casing surrounding the bridge pickup on the original stock? It appears to have right-angled corners and the restored has the rounded edges.

That is a period correct surround. Here is mine:

I have seen them both ways during this period, sharp and more rounded. From what I have seen the earlier '72s seem to have the surrounds with the sharper edges....YMMV...

That needed a rout repair along with the refin . Or at least a bigger 60's style guard .Nice refin work Paul.

Jon, as I explained, it is not possible to repair a rout and retain a transparent/translucent finish. So we decided to cover it with a compromise, custom-made guard. Nt too big, not too small...juuuust right.

I wouldn't sweat on the 'guard too much. It still looks right, and the bass simply looks great.

I think the really short guards look silly anyways. The longer guard looks more visually balanced. I never realized how tight together the '70s knob pattern was. Looks kind of uncomfortable to get to em.
