Post by Dr.Byrd09 »

IIRC, in '66 they both used Fender Showmans with 2X15 cabs with JBL's.

BTW, Welcome to the forum, Mark.

In fact, one of McGuinn's two cabs in 1966 (e.g. the Yankee Stadium gig) was often a 1x15 single Showman.

I saw them live in a medium-sized venue in summer 1966 and the backline was three Showman amps -- Chris also used one for bass. I couldn't tell if the cabs were dual or single 15" JBLs, but I was about 20 feet from the stage and it made no difference to me!

I saw them in 1966 at the Arie Crown Theatre at Chicago's McCormick Place.....McGuinn was playing through a Super Reverb that was cross-wired with a Dual Showman (Rick 12 plugged into input one of Super's normal channel, another chord plugged into input 2 and run across to input one on the normal channel of the Showman)....everything else was Dual Showmans....one magic night during the Clarence White years I stood ten feet from the band at Westmont, Illinois' Blue Village, and White and McGuinn were using Twin Reverbs and killing me softly.....the Twin is one he*% of an amp for its size 8) 8)

As discussed on a previous thread here, the Fender Showman and Twin amps of the mid-'60s had a lot in common.
