The BestBeat

Post by ric340JG »

Here is Serbia's first (and only) Beatles tribute band. All the instruments are authentic except for the "325" which is a copy. They are not a professional band and they simply could not afford a genuine Rickenbacker. In any case, give them a listen, I personally think they're pretty good.

These guys are very good. Do they also do the later Beatle songs and costumes?

Yes, in addition to these costumes they also have the "Shea Stadium" costumes and the "Seargent Pepper" costumes. They are currently undergoing a major change because they switched from five to four members. The "Please Please Me" video is the way they look now, with four members . . . They have their own website but they are going to make changes to it to reflect the new changes. They had a dozen or more videos on YouTube showing them when there were five, so they took them off and will be replacing them with new videos.

They do the later Beatles songs very well, and they also have a keyboard guy, so they have no problems. Here is a link to their myspace page:

http://www.myspace.com/thebestbeatbeatlestributeband

. . . where they have lots of new photos and only several mp3 files for now (Please Please Me, A Hard Day's Night, Help!, Act Naturally, Strawberry Fields Forever). They are in the process of making new video files.

Their old home page link is still active:

http://www.thebestbeat.com/engleski/audiovideo.html

and at the bottom you can dowlnoald a 15MB version of "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" from their earlier period.

Aslo, here's a link to a video with an older version fo Help, when they were still five.

In the meantime, they have also purchased a Rick 360/12 "Harrison" copy and are having a luthier fix it up to look and sound as decent as possible, so that they will be able to do the 12-string songs more successfully. They also plan to purchase a JangleBox for the 12-string -- that's my influence! :))

Their biggest regret is not being able to buy real Ricks, which are extremely rare in Europe, particularly in Serbia, and which are not only expensive, but also have a long waiting period.

Bojan

P.S. how did you manage to attach the YouTube video?

Looks like they are doing a grand tribute. I wish them all the best. I think there are a few members here who could set the guys up with all the real Ricks they want, so it's good you introduce them here.

You tube embedding? On the right of the YouTube page is some text areas with information for embedding. Copy that embed info and open your RRF post submission page (hit reply to any topic). Above the text area are some buttons and one of them says youtube. Click that button and paste your embed info where the cursor is between the two sets of brackets. Hit submit and you're done!

Looks like Twist and Shout was them live, but Please Please Me was a lip synch of their studio recording.

Not bad at all! They deserve better than a 325 copy.

No, they really are good. They are all former students of the Belgrade Film Academy and they all have some kind of formal music education. And the best thing is that they are huge Beatles enthusiasts. Even though they were born after the Beatles broke up, they know just about everything about the Fab Four. Recently they had the Beatles shoes custom made for them and they managed to find wigs. It's hard because even though nowadays you can buy just about anything in Belgrade, like in all of Europe, and you have dozens of huge modern shopping malls, things like Beatles accessories are not available. Neither are Ricks. So they have to improvise a lot. For example, they have Vox AD50 amps which used to have those ugly metal grills and I gave them the address of North Coast Music where they ordered the brown Vox cloth white tubing and had the amps redone so they would look more authentic. Even though the new Gretsch Country Gentleman they bought recently was made in Korea and is a relative much cheap guitar, at least it's still a Gretsch, but they can't afford Ricks because both models they would need are among the most expensive Ricks anyway, and there are no used Ricks in Serbia. Actually, they were lucky to find a guy in Belgrade with two fake Ricks, and he ripped them off, but they had no choice. They all have regular jobs now and all the money they have earned is invested in their gear. They are half amateurs, but they can't make much from concerts. Besides, lot of their concerts are free and for different charities. Recently they held two free concerts for orphaned children in a children's theater. That was really nice. But they are struggling. I guess the global economic crisis has hit everyone!
