In the past the numbers ran sequentially, at least for a month at a time, sometimes longer. In some years the numbers increased, in others they were decremented. As such you can't infer the actual production sequence unless you have access to the full database scheme.
Since 1998, however, the last three numbers will appear to be entirely random, generated by the computer to make the number unique, but like credit cards, there's a validation process involved for the whole number. I added this code to the software when we discovered serial plates being routinely forged by someone.
I might add that I'm not a fan of publishing serial numbers, at least of somewhat historic instruments, but it's your instrument and perhaps I'm overestimating the risks, having been burned on this more than once.
