BTW, I was interested in bidding on the V63 in question, so contacted the seller, but the ballpark he suggested was WAY more than I was looking at. The last V63 I saw for sale in the UK was in Music Ground in Leeds (specialists in vintage gear, and priced accordingly); it was a f/glo, good but nowhere near mint, and was £1699 ($3125). It went in a couple of weeks....I get the feeling he's looking at fairly close to that kind of figure.

Thought I'd tag this onto this thread. I was just looking at the Bass Palace and they have a nice Fireglo V63 marked as 'Just In'. Sell for 1589.00. This is my dream bass but I have no money Image so I thought I'd share it with the forum.

Not surprised it sold so quickly if that was the price it sold for. When I bought mine (natural finish) it was listed on a dealers site in "this weeks arrivals" and I bought it early on a monday morning, and the Fireglow seems much rarer. They don't seem to last very long if they are market priced.

John Hall once told me that when compared to the natural finish 4001V63 orders, the FG 4001V63 finished basses were a very small percentage of the overall production. Last year I literally had to search the planet over to find a 4001V63 FG lefty, I was lucky to get it and didn't mind paying for full list (after shipping, taxes, etc.) price for it.
