The 71 in question is certainly one of the best around, and as I mentioned you can source the hardware, making it a super example with that finish...

Right but are you a player or a collector? If you're into them for playing, the new ones are just as good. (I would say better but I know many here will say I'm wrong about that.)

No Ric I've ever played comes close in tone to my '72 4001, and I've probably played hundreds. However regardless of this - YMMV - (and I'm a player, not a collector), the full width crushed pearl, screw top high gain, checkered binding and walnut wings on the small headstock make a '71/72 far more desirable for me than a new one, not for reasons of collectability, but for aesthetic reasons.

That's a really nice example of what is a very coveted version of Ric bass. Beautiful aged FG, in far better condition that most, and that's a huge plus, original walnut wings, and flat grovers/bridge. Effectively, if you want a decent vintage Ric bass, this has to be considered.

Yes, the pickguard and p/ups aren't original, but you can find them, and then you will have one of the best vintage Ric bass guitars around.

You possibly might get anywhere from $3K-4.5K, even in this market, with the HS pushing up the price, but personally, I'd be looking to keep this bass as long as I could...

+1. If I wasn't also suffering with the credit crunch I'd have that off you in a flash; my favourite period and features (although I'd sell the horseshoe on ).

I paid 1400.00 and 1050.00 for my 72 and early 73 respectively just in the last six months .

The 72 is a mapleglo and was complete when i got it sans case. The april 73 needed grovers wich i had two sets sitting here.
