Finish coming off

I just had a newer Rick come into my shop where the finish at the fretboard edge about half way up the neck, along the binding,
start to come off. Only between a couple frets around the 12th fret.
Thick clear piece down to the binding - like it didn't stick well in production.
Anyone else see this type of issue. Adjacent to this area you can see where it is about to lift.
Luckily it is on the lower horn (high "E") edge so it can be attended to and probably not be noticable provided a smooth repair is accomplished.
First the adjacent area needs to be secured by super glue and a syringe (worked perfectly last time and fills the air gape and secures it well) and
then fill missing finish area with multiple coats of clear followed by wet sanding. Then polish.
I've done it before with great results but just want to see if this is a fluke or a relatively common occurance.

And, sure I've seen it. It's one type of finish reaction to thermal shock. The wood of the guitar expands faster than the finish can, and the finish separates instead of checking. Easier to fix than checking, but not as acceptable visually as "mojo" or craquelure patina.

Thanks for catching that Paul, I've corrected it.

I'm not sure whethter or not the older Ricks had that thick and hard of a clear finish.
I see your point about movement of guitar components related to woods, binding and finish. It's just the first time I've seen that big a piece come off in two places right down to the binding.
