Goodbye Pork Pie Hat...
...but that's because I'm down to my last Rick, and it's a fretless. Not 'impossible' to play Heart Of The Sunrise on it, but it just doesn't have that wire-on-wire 'ng' sound. Do they make a stomp-box that will 'Squire-ize' a fretless? It'd be cheaper than having to get another Rick...

I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

"All My Loving", "Day Tripper", in fact just about any part that Paul wrote for the lads. That's fun but I don't really play too much bass for fun, usually only when it has to be done for my own songs. Well, I get the duty when I jam with my harbor buddies too, then my favorite song is the one we can get through without (their) messing up.

All I wanna do is rock!

The Paul stuff is always fun, I'm currently partial to Nowhere Man, Rain, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite, and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
It's funny, as I read through the list, so many songs I enjoy playing are represented, particularly the McCartney, Squire and Geddy stuff. Then I realize, most all of you people bought RIC basses for the same influences/reasons I did!

Wanting to copy out heros? Not really - I am caught by the tone Squire gets. The reason I don't have a real Precision bass is because with my style of playing and preferred amp settings it sounds too much like a Rick and then can't justify owning it. So it is mostly for the sound. Over the years here finding out all the songs and groups that used a Rick bass that I always loved the songs, the Rick basses are the common denominator. I found/find that really interesting. My Ricks fulfill the sound in my head.Freez wrote:It's funny, as I read through the list, so many songs I enjoy playing are represented, particularly the McCartney, Squire and Geddy stuff. Sorry for the drift....
Re: Your favorite songs to play on Ric bass?
I tend to just jam to what I'm listening to, whatever the style.
Doesn't matter if it's rock, soul, jazz....even a touch of hip-hop! If I can't make out the bassline, then I'll just jam something I'll make up for the fun of it.
I've yet to find a track that doesn't improve with a Ric bassline!

Veronica! That's got to be a blast to play!rickfan60 wrote:The Spirit of Radio and Veronica
I do a lot of mine, since I have or have to record them. I try to write/make them fun.
Otherwise, No Teardrops Tonight by Hank always gets my toes a tappin'. It's basically a 1-5 type of song.

The Yes Drama album. That one awesome riff - over and over.
Zebra (anybody remember them? Great bass lines)
Rush (anything pre-dating Power Windows)
Genesis 3 Sides Live (i like to work my own stuff around that framework).
Yes (pretty much anything there is a good challenge...)

Re: Your favorite songs to play on Ric bass?
Interesting thread.
My current favorites are:
Box Tops - The Letter
Procul Harum - Whiter Shade of Pale
Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
Los Bravos - Black is Black
Sweet - Love is like Oxygen
Buzzcocks - What do I get
Alan Parsons Project - Damned If I do
Pink Floyd - Money
I think none of these songs was originally recorded with a Rick (apart from the Sweet song maybe).
I have to admit I just play for fun and am still learning (like any other I guess).
I like to know how you do exercise. I got a 35 watt Orange Combo which I rarely use.
I rather plug to my Line6 Tone Port connected to a MacBook on which I play along midi-files.
It's simply more fun to play along a whole arrangement than just bass and a metronome.
What's your choice and why?

Why not start a new thread as this is an excellent topic.Hornbrille wrote:I like to know how you do exercise. I got a 35 watt Orange Combo which I rarely use.

Re: Your favorite songs to play on Ric bass?
Hmmmmmm,
Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera and Number of the Beast
Metallica - Anesthesia, One, Dyers Eve and Disposable Heroes
Motorhead - Stone Dead Forever, Metropolis and Ace of Spades
Helmet - In the Meantime
Black Sabbath - Symptom of the Universe, NIB, Mob Rules, War Pigs (intro) and Trashed
William Tell Overture (Lone Ranger Theme)
Not the most difficult songs but fun for me to play all or part of.

It is fun. I don't play it exactly as Paul does. He comes up off of the roots in a place or two. I like the bouncy feel and up tempo drive.shamustwin wrote:Veronica! That's got to be a blast to play!rickfan60 wrote:The Spirit of Radio and Veronica
