Rickenbacker strings are the best IMHO. They last ages, in my experience, though I don't play 12 string everyday and I think they sound fantastic. Never had any problems with them.

I never had any problems with them also and they sound fantastic, that's right.

That will be true whatever brand string you use. I must admit though, I don't like the sound of brand new strings. I think strings sound best after they've settled down a little. Thank goodness we have options, right?Ric-360-12FG wrote:Well, of course I also could have used my strings for a year or even longer. It always depends on how demanding you are concerning the sound a few weeks after restringing the guitar.

Thanks for the help everybody! I like all the options - especially the getting another Rick idea. I'm already planning the second one even though I don't get my first Rick until Friday.
I think I'll give the TI flats a try, especially after hearing the demo. I'm looking for that sound - I have to cut through another loud 6-string, a lap steel, and an electric mandolin - I bet the TI flats sound will do that, especially with compression. If not, I'll give the Rick rounds a try because I like rounds on all the other guitars I own.

Don't know what the best strings might be but these have served me well.

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

Re: Best strings for a 360/12
My "bottom line" summary is as follows:
TI flatwounds = very tight, well defined sound. Maximum articulation of individual strings...any trace of muddiness is gone. Chords and individual notes are sharp and crisp.
Rickenbacker compressed rounds = slightly more volume and a bit brighter sounding. Chords sound very slightly muddy compared to the crisp flatwounds.
Your favorite compressor will enhance either string choice.

I had good luck in my one experience with Ric strings. I'm currently using D'Addario's which are very average.

I do have a D'Addario flatwound set on my 460 BG six-string, and they are really great!

I have liked the Rickenbacker compressed round wounds best for my 12 string.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
