I Think My Ric Has 'Matured'!

This is probably quite a common thing...

But I recently noticed my FG 4003 (bought new in 2003) has gradually changed colour!

The red has gone really dark, and the yellow centre has got smaller as the red gets bigger!

TBH, it looks lovely now, better than when I bought it! I know my other Rics always 'bed-in', ie they always sound better once they've been used for a bit, but I was unaware of the colours maturing as well.

Has anybody else had this?

Does yours photograph a bit darker then it actually is? My 02 4003, ordered new, photographys similarly, but it's still quite pinkish and hasn't yellowed much. It has a really tasty grain, so i don't mind, but i haven't heard of the yellow disappearing in place of red. Did you mean the other way around?

Bit strange, isn't it? But the red has gone more 'burgandy' and has crept - slightly - into where the yellow was.

Incidentally, the yellow isn't quite as bright, either.

Either way, it looks a picture.....and better than it did in 2003!

Oh no! You have the Red Creep!!!

The pigments exist in their own layer in the finish. I suppose it's possible for them to travel, but unlikely. RIC has been experimenting with the finish recipe for a while, however... only recently did they begin to settle on UV.
