My new bass
The detuning thing has been accepted as the "right" way for as long as I can remember. Maybe what JH was saying about acoustic guitars was simply broadened out of lack of understanding to include all stringed instruments. BTW do you all avoid swimming for a 1/2 hour after eating to avoid craps?
However unnecessary, alot of people do.

I got hassled about that once flying from Florida to Michigan with my 1962 Gibson SG, and I told the waitress....errr...stewardess that I WAS going to carry it on, that if it went in the luggage compartment I was going to expect her to pay for it if something happened to it...she let me bring it on with a smile. I actually played it on the plane to the delight (?) of the other passengers. See what bloody marys and airplane travel can do?
