Congrats MarK:
A happy ending for at least one butchered RIC...
I too play a lot in alternate tunings like DADGAD... Neat.

Re: Rickenbacker Rebirth Project [LOTS O PICS]
Great point. I was considering trying out some hi-gains but I'm actually quite pleased with the tones of the toasters. This guitar is destined for a particular project of mine that uses mostly clean to mildly overdriven tones, regardless, so I doubt I will find cause to change them out.guitar-murph wrote:Well.......that's about $1200.00 for this project, but you did not include the cost of the 'toasters.' Should you have to return them to the person you borrowed them from, expect to pay $300.00 or more for a replacement pair. This will bring your cost up to around that of a new 620......in fact, depending on who you purchased from, possibly more than the cost of a new one.
I will most likely wind up trading something to my buddy for the toasters - he did, after all, get them very cheaply - so my total cost should remain not too much over where it is now. I'm actually not terribly concerned about the resale value of the instrument since I don't sell instruments, ever, anymore. I had a few unfortunate sales early in life that taught me to not sell guitars because I wind up regretting it later on. At one point, I had two Parker Flys - one would not typically find a lot of use for a second Fly, but damn, I sure wish I had that guitar still.
Thanks for the comments, folks. I am supremely pleased with the way this build turned out.

Very cool. I love a 620 with a trapeze and toasters, especially in JetGlo.
Re: Rickenbacker Rebirth Project [LOTS O PICS]
One thing I don't understand: why is the black finish referred to as JetGlo? I get Jet Black, but where's the glowing part?
Still enjoying playing this guitar.

Glo is short for Gloss...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: Rickenbacker Rebirth Project [LOTS O PICS]
Besides grounding the wipers of the volume controls? Can you spot my initial wiring errors?
Re: Rickenbacker Rebirth Project [LOTS O PICS]
it can happen to the best of us!

Re: Rickenbacker Rebirth Project [LOTS O PICS]
Yeah, it can...
I did the stacked pot V/T V/T mod to my 4004 and somehow ended up getting the tone pots wired backwards.
They work, just the wrong direction. The wiring is so tight I'm hesitant to fix it...

Well done!
I want'a put a trapeze on my 620 JG put I can't get my hand to put the drill to the ole girl.
Some vintage tuners would hit the spot too. There is a 1979 620 VP JG in the register with the Kluson's on it and they look mighty fine!
The '79 also has the vintage truss rod cover on it too. Dreamy...

She's a virgin only once; the 620 won't feel the pain for too long!320capt wrote:Well done!

You just made my annual fee to the forum worth while!
Superb - thank you!
Re: Rickenbacker Rebirth Project [LOTS O PICS]
I ordered a stereo jack plate from Guitar Parts Resource, without measuring :\
Although GPR has a great selection and shipped the part to me pronto, it doesn't fit the guitar. I needed some sort of jack support, though, so I just broke out the Dremel Moto-Tool (its proper name!) and cut the doggone thing in half, and stuck it on the guitar with 2 screws per half. I need to get the real deal....I just don't want to spend $150 on a bit of metal.
