Alan White: In depth about John and George

Post by 8mileshigher »

Some of you Beatle fans (and Yes fans) might enjoy reading this pretty extensive interview with Yes-man Alan White, who started his path to fame in 1969 - 1971, when drumming for John Lennon on several Plastic Ono Band gigs and solo projects and on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. Pretty fascinating reading and a lot of details about the intricacies of some famous songs worked on at some of these sessions - that not too many people know about.

Including some pretty interesting step-by-step commentary about the journey to Toronto and rehearsing on the plane; the Lyceum jam on Cold Turkey; how John Lennon would switch drummers between White, Keltner and Gordon on different tunes on the Imagine album, working at Apple Studios and other interesting post-Beatle era tidbits. He makes a point that John Lennon passed lyrics to the session-men ahead of time for How Do You Sleep and other controversial songs... so that is somebody wasn't comfortable with the message they could opt out. A lot of references to being treated as a family member by John and George during the Imagine sessions and All Things Must Pass sessions.

This Alan White interview was done around 2002 -- so if this was circulated previously on the Forum, I apologize for unintentionally repeating a topic.
