Re-fusing an amplifier

Actually, Bob, I have only tried one replacement fuse and it was the wrong type. I need to try one fuse of the correct type to see if that cures the problem. Whenever a fuse blows, you need to try a new one first. Yes, if the correct one blows, then I need to check into further problems. Thanks for the advice.

James all I am trying to trying to tell you (and I am a graduate of tech school although it is not my full time gig and regularly fix tube amps, radios etc.) is that what really matters with a fuse is the amperage not whether or not it is a time delay fuse. A fuse just does not blow for no reason and if you replace it with a correct amperage fuse whether it is a time delay or not and it blows in one second (especially before you turn on the plate supply [standby]) you have got some problem somewhere. I am not trying to tell you what to do, only trying to maybe prevent a very expensive repair bill for you.

Bob, what you're saying makes sense certainly. The Laney dealer in Malaysia (Yamaha Music) suggests that I go to their local shop so I will take it in before blowing another fuse.

Success! It was just the fuse.

I went to the big city this week (Kuala Lumpur) and found an electric shop close to the amp dealer. They had slo-blow 0.63A fuses. I went to the amp dealer and tried one out on the new Laney in their showroom and ... nothing happened. The amp was fine, nothing blew. So I bought a bunch and took them home to my Laney amp and am back to playing through it again.

Thanks again to all for the advice rendered. I am saving the thread on my hard disk so that if and when the amp has problems in the future, I will know how to check the various tubes one at a time.
