360-12 toasters

Hi everyone, i,ve done the search here and on the other forum concerning the 360-12 with the toaster pups.The only thing is i,ve never personally tried one. So far i like what i,m getting as far as sound out of my Ric.They seem to be in stock more often at Rick. also. Should i or should,nt i many thanks ,John

Man, I think toasters are the greatest. There are a wide varity of tones, not just the jangle. Stuff that will really stand out in a mix.

Toasters not only look cooler than hi-gains, they sound better, too.

The more I listen to the sonic, tonal, and resonant characteristics of Hi-Gains and Toasters®, the more I'm convinced there is a place for both in one's palette. Each is obviously different from the other but neither one detracts from the other. I'd recommend setting up a Ric with Hi-Gains and another with Toasters®. I had grown comfortable with the Toaster® sound. But recently, I started playing a Ric with Hi-Gains again and man, the sound had a crunchy and pleasing edge to it. Can't go wrong with either pickup, AFAIC. Late.......Goofyfoot.

Yeah, I put high gains on my 650 (not a humbucker fan), and man, that sounds great! Room for everything, a place for both, indeed.

The new high gains with the adjustable pole pieces can sound exceptional if you get the pole pieces right. I had toasters in my 330 for years, then just recently slapped the new hi gains in. The neck, to me, when adjusted right, completely kills the toaster. The toaster by itself in the past was not the greatest sounding pickup, but of course sounded great mixed in with the bridge via the 5th knob. I like to use neck pickups on my guitars with fuzz and the tone down for that "woman tone" and such sound, and for me, the toaster didn't hang. Wow, now I actually have a 2 pickup guitar instead of a 1 pickup guitar with a big magnet at the neck acting like a bass control.

I must say, this is quite strange, as my 360/12 has toasters, and the neck sounds glorious, alone or mixed. The bridge seems a little weak, but this a common problem and I may have it rewound to make it a little hotter to balance it out like others here have done.

Ok, the bridge hi-gain is still being fine tuned. Overall it sounds great, I just need to really take some time to dial it in. I hope I can get as happy about the bridge as I did the neck, as I don't want 2 different pickups on it, and replacing the neck cover with a toaster cover for cosmetic reasons would take away the adjustability of the pole pieces.

So, yak, yak, yak, this is a perfect example of why one needs to put them in their own instruments and try them in their own environment. Keep us posted

This reminds me of some of the little adjustments I'm experimenting with on my new Rick. Now that I've found that raising the pole piece below the G string pair worked wonders, I'm fooling with the pickup height adjustment screws and realizing what a difference a half turn can make, in either direction. What fun!
