Bypass cap switched pot mod (4001C64)

Post by fazeka »

Hi,

I have a new 4001C64 on order and am interested in performing the bypass cap switched pot mod once it arrives. I was hoping to use the pot available from Rickenbacker, SKU # 07346.

In doing some research, I found that some 400x owners have had to "route out" the cavity under the pot for the pickguard to sit flat (due to the new pot being slightly taller than the original), while others said that there is enough clearance and that this isn't necessary. Further, others have stated the new pot's threaded bushing is undersized compared to the original pot, necessitating an oversized washer to fasten the pot properly to the pickguard.

For those who have added the push/pull pot to their 4001C64s, is this still the case?

Cheers,
Chris

Chris, though I don't have a C64, the ones needing the extra wood removed are the older Ricks. You should be okay. And yes you will need a flat washer to properly mount the Rick pot - it is metric whereas the pickguard hole is for the 1/4" pot shafts. Not a big deal to do. This might help:
