Your Favourite Song That Features A Fretless Bass
Your Favourite Song That Features A Fretless Bass
Hey gang,
I am looking for some musical inspiration. I just bought a fretless bass and I love it. Please post some videos of songs that you really like that have a fretless in them..........any genre is fair game.
Thanks.

Clapton's "Blow Wind Blow"..... it's probably an upright bass in the track but that makes it fretless!!!

Don't get me started! But to keep the list to something manageable, anything on Joni Mitchell's Hejira, especially, "Coyote" and "Refuge Of The Road".

Just about anything on Paul Simon's Graceland, but particularly "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes".

Any of several by Rick Danko of The Band.
Re: Your Favourite Song That Features A Fretless Bass
Thanks guys. I will hunt down videos for some of these. I want to properly learn various techniques that I am already emulating as a result of listening to sound bytes alone.
Keep 'em coming. I watched some of The Firm's videos last night courtesy of a suggestion by Joey. I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting their body of work.
Thanks for the bass Woody. I have not been able to put it down. Joey warned me that would happen.
Ultimately I want to use this bass on a few jazz recordings. Songs that I will finally finish, now that I have the instrument to play the part that I have heard in my head.

I'll echo most of what has been said already, but more specifically - "Strawberry Wine" by The Band (Danko on bass) and "Coyote" by Joni Mitchell (Jaco on bass).
For a completely different fretless experience, listen to the Primus album "Sailing The Seas Of Cheese".

Lady in Red - Chris De Burgh
Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton
Just to mention a few slow numbers.. I love the way fretless sounds in a ballad.
