Yep, Les Claypool is certainly "different". Here's "Tommy the Cat", a classic Primus rock-funk brain-mashing masterpiece. The bass solo near the end is short but almost as surreal as the clip..

I could not get that last you tube video to work. Why the faces Jeff? Is it bad?

Sorry the embedding didn't work for you Brian. I'm not sure if Jeff is shocked by the weirdness of the clip and song, Tom Wait's vocal, the screaming guitar line or what Les does with his six-string fretless bass.

I'll eschew further embedding - instead here's a link to the equally bizarre "Jerry was a Race-car Driver", with Les playing a chordal bass line on his fretless that borders on being rhythm guitar.

As a rule, Les Claypool wrote the lyrics, though there may be some exceptions. He's a very weird and very talented guy - I'm never sure if the lyrics are satirical, artistic, or just "out there"....

Scarily, the album was recorded 18 years ago...I'm feeling old.... :cry:

Run Through the Light from Yes on the Drama album. I believe that it is Trevor Horn and not Mr. Squire on that. If you all like fretless you owe it to yourselves to check out Mick Karn. His stuff from his band Japan is great powerpop. And his solo work is immaculate!

hey i just remembered....don henley's "sunset grill" or "new york minute" featuring the great pino palladino....maybe not quite as technically arresting as some of the others mentioned here.....since ya just got your fretless a few days ago.... :lol: :mrgreen:
