Hmm. Could Ricks be like potatos? Cut off the headstock, suspend it over a glass of water so the cut end is submerged, and maybe it will grow a completely new neck and body?

The 80's ... what a decade.
But.... it's not quite as ugly as I'd expected; and I bet it does still sound pretty much like a Ric.
That said - I will not be bidding on this one.

If he kept the head(stock) in a jar with formaldehyde, I'll bet Paul could successful fix it.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.
Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part dix-sept
No headstock, EMGs, Steinberger bridge, two (!) plastic strap buttons, wrong knobs, terrible battery rout on the back...nice to know the world is still full of jackasses.
This thing should be salvaged for whatever possible, then thrown into the nearest fire and forgotten about.

I'm not sure what I think about this.
It's definitely different but decapitation isn't my thing when it comes to instruments. I can deal with surgeries like de-fretting and such but this goes beyond the pale.
I like it and hate it at the same time.
I like that it's unique and different but I hate that it was done to a Ric. I can see this being done to a clone or any other instrument but this, in my mind, is something you don't do to a Ric.
If RIC released a headless bass and this is what it looked like, that's one thing. But this poor thing was barely 5 when it saw the guillotine.
I'm uploading these mutilation pics for posterity so that others may see the wretchedness of it.

We need a disclaimer about the potential for making people sick ...Tarrbot wrote:... I'm uploading these mutilation pics for posterity so that others may see the wretchedness of it.
As usual, we can't know the modifier's perspective ... to us, the logical thing would have been to have bought a Steinberger! IMO the worst part of the auction is that the seller still wants US$1700 for that thing.

Each to his own and all that...but I personally find this quite disturbing...
Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part dix-sept
Looking a the pic of the (former) headstock, it does look like this might have suffered a pretty cataclysmic head break. There's a jagged-looking section that appears to have been either glued back in or crudely filled, & I'm inclined to think it's lost its head in an accident & the owner probably thought it was irreparable & that's why they did this. Better than someone actually thinking this was an improvement, I suppose!
For the incurably reserved I can tell you that the parts donor was a Hohner B2A licensed Steinberger copy, or a Hohner Jack, which has donated bridge/tuners, string retainer, pickups & very probably an active circuit.
And yes, I know I need to get out more.
Jon.
