I could say I went the extra mile and took them out of my '67 4005WB and you would all be very impressed with my diligence to the cause, but in reality these are new rods I got in '83 as spares (now that WAS brilliant of me).
Thanks, for the pictures. I see that unlike the later truss rod system they are only threaded at one end. Am I correct in thinking that both the rod and slot are wider at one end and that tightening results on the rod being wedged into place to straighten the neck ? Are these rods more difficult to remove, especially if the ends have been bent by incorrect tightening ?
As far as I know, the slots for the rods are the same dimension for the entire lenght of the neck. It may be a little tricky to remove the nuts from bent down rods, but once that is done, just carefully pull the rods out and then straightening them is easy. To make it easier to remove the rods, remove the pickgaurd so that there is a clear opening to push the rods into the neck towards the bridge, then you can back off the nuts easier. After doing this on my '67 4005WB and '73 4001 I came to realize how nice this system really is, just the execution of it needed some upgrading. I feel that with the older truss rod design, the necks stays put better than traditional designs.
