Re: 370/12 Walnut S# UH 3000
Good luck with your decision. Speaking from experience, I bought back my AZ Blue Rick four years ago and I don't really even think about the price I paid...of course it wasn't $2500, but even if it had been I probably wouldn't think about it much-I'd be happier that I had my guitar back.

Damn Kenny, kennyhowes wrote:OK, he's responded. It's definitely my old guitar.
Thing is, he's holding firm on the price, and I know that guitar is hammered. The clear coat peeled off the neck at the heel, and there's checking on the entire face.
I also haven't heard back from Phlemmy or other Austinites, and the seller would rather not ship.
So I guess I need to figure out if it's worth $2500 to buy back a chunk of my youth.
I can't imagine what the odds are of finding your old guitar like you did. I know you've been looking for a L O N G time.
There's got to be someone here that can help with the assist.
Best of luck on whatever you decide to do, but I doubt if you pass on it this time you would ever find it again.
Re: 370/12 Walnut S# UH 3000
You found it - COOL! I'm still looking for my old '74 4001MG.
Yeah, $2500 is probably way too much, and you know what, you can't get your youth back either, no matter how much you pay.
But in the grand scheme of things, getting something with sentimental value, such as your old guitar is pretty much priceless, how often does an opportunity like that come along?

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

All in all, it is cool that you've found it. If it had loads of mojo, I'd prolly do it.....YMMV.kennyhowes wrote:OK, he's responded. It's definitely my old guitar.

Wow, Kenny, that's a toughie. I would do it if possible, if I was you. That kind of mojo is priceless.
All I wanna do is rock!
Re: 370/12 Walnut S# UH 3000
Wow, I'm surprising myself as I post this, but I'd have to say pass. That's a lot of dough you could spend in much better ways. You already have much cooler instruments. And getting the guitar back probably will not do anything your memories can't.

I'd say go for it... If it was me I'd hate myself if I didn't...

We could threaten to send the boys round and imply we might have to break his @**$*^# legs...
This is Howes, RIC Howes...
But, failing that, the fact you actually HAVE found it, means you really should get it...

Hey, it's only money...

Speaking from experience, go for it, Kenny. As the years pass you will forget about what it cost to get it back.

In addition, it would be unfortunate to read about this guitar in a "the one that got away" post from you at some later date.

Gotta side with tha' Dog here. You're like me - we go through guitars like Sherman went through Georgia. When the novelty wears off, who's gonna give you $2500 for this?jdogric12aolcom wrote:Wow, I'm surprising myself as I post this, but I'd have to say pass. Okay, Kenny, you already knew it was beat. What's broken about it can be fixed. What's old about it you'll remember.kennyhowes wrote:Sentimental. Got it when I was 17 or so.jdogric12aolcom wrote:Kenny, care to share what makes it so special? If not, totally understood.
It's beat to hell, wherever it is. I'd like it still in that condition.
Go for it. If he doesn't want to ship, ask him to walk it down to the UPS Store. It'll cost you or him some extra $$$, but they will box it up and assume any liability for in-transit loss or damage. So he can take it there and walk away.
Another alternative is if you know someone at a music store (any RIC dealers in Austin?), have the seller take it there and you buy it from the music store on consignment.
You see the lengths one might go to in order to acquire the non-shippable guitar? I've been there. No regrets. If you want it to work out, it will.
Good luck.
Re: 370/12 Walnut S# UH 3000
Good luck and congrats. It's hard to tell people what to do with their own money. I do know there are a few things I really regret selling over the years and money would be no object if I could get them back. YMMV.

Geoff
