On rewiring, when I did mine with the rotary switch there were no decent push/pull pots available. I think if I were to do it again I'd use a DPDT push/pull tone pot for each pickup to switch it between series and parallel. That would add the option of running either PUP in parallel with the other still in series. A 3rd push/pull pot(5th knob) could be used for phasing between the PUPs and the 5th knob used as bass roll-off.
There are diagrams for parallel/series and out-of phase switching in the Strat(!) schematics section on the Seymour Duncan site. Try:

I don't have a diagram for mine, but if you want to use a Rotary, the wiring gets really complicated and can drive you nuts. I used a 4 position 6 pole rotary I got from Mouser Electronics - http://www.mouser.com. It had to be modified(shortened shaft, bushing, and the distance between the wafers) to fit in the Ric. Mouser also has a 6 position 4 pole rotary, plus quite a few other types. Allparts sells a 5 position 4 pole(PRS-style) rotary and there's a PRS schematic on the DiMarzio web site. The PRS scheme elimates the normal 3-way selector, which I wanted to keep on mine, but it's good for ideas.
There's a book titled "Guitar Electronics for Musicians" by Donald Brosnac that shows all the wiring options for 2, 3, and 4 wire humbuckers and includes some rotary switch diagrams. I used one of those as a starting point. One problem with schematics for rotary switches is the contacts are arranged differently from one manufacturer to the next.
