Fretboard inlays are gray as compared to a V64. Also the fretboard on a C63 has a 7.5" radius compared to a 10" radius.

After talking with Kevin Kuney today RIC did build these with the new inlay material. This kind of suprised me. Apparently he looked at one at a local dealer before it went to the buyer who had ordered it about three years ago.

The 360C's have a gray colored inlay cut in the same fashion as our other inlays.

We are no longer permitted to use the products we used to pour the old inlays.

Thanks for the info, Ben! From these pics, a great job was done making the inlays look very close to previous C63s....

I don't know, my '97 V64 inlays are awfully grey as well! I know it's hard to tell the subtler differences just from photos, though.

Aware of the differences between V and C, just commenting on the inlay appearance. They certainly aren't as bright white as the other new FWIs, so good job to RIC for keeping them close to the older style in spite of having to change techniques!

I take it this is for environmental reasons?

That is a question for the South Coast Air Quality Management District. My guess is yes...

Hmmm, I read the posts and it looks like nobody asked this question so I might as well. How does it play? Sonic, tonal, and resonant characteristics? Cool score.......props to you, bruddah.......Goofyfoot.
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

What a beaut. Every one of these things is a work of art! I hope you don't mind if I use your first photo for a wallpaper/screen saver? Those of us still waiting need a fix every now and then.....

Um, just so there is no misunderstanding, these pics were taken by the (excellent) photographer at Dave's Guitar shop as quick snaps, and emailed to me. They are not my pics. I wanted to share them here because there was so much speculation/curiosity as to what the FG finish would look like on the new 360/12C63s. I think we're all pleasantly surprised on that score!

The guitar has not yet been delivered, so I can't report on how it sounds. It's due to arrive here early next week.

Stay tuned! :D

Hi,

I'm newbie here. And I'm also new to Rickenbacker guitars. I have been playing guitar (as a hobbyist) about 19 years. I have Gibson, Epiphone, Fender, Gretsch and Duesenberg guitars. But no RIC, yet. Did I understand right, that there is a long wait to get this guitar (360/12c63)?

What kind of finish is in this guitar? Poly or nitro?

Welcome to the Forum, Petri.

RIC instruments are finished in neither poly or nitro, but rather in a specially formulated conversion varnish. From the RIC website:

Following many coats of sealer and color coats, numerous applications of a super high gloss finish are made. Providing not only great visual appeal, this surface treatment protects the guitar from dings and scrapes; the unique chemistry of the material makes it both hard and flexible at the same time. Impact areas do not craze or radiate like polyester, nor does this material turn cloudy or finish-check in cool weather like nitrocellulose.

FYI, there's a lot more interesting information about RIC's production and finishing process at: http://www.rickenbacker.com/factory_finish.asp

Thanks for the welcome and answer Ron. The reason why I asked the question, was that some guitar stands foam is melting nitro lacquer. Is there any danger like this in RIC guitars?
