Halp! Bassist looking for new cabs.

Post by cassius987 »

I am moving to Denver, and (most likely) losing 2-300 square feet of domicile in the process. Not only that but my current speaker rig of Ashdown 4x10 (~90 lbs) and 1x15 (much more manageable ~50 lbs) speakers has started getting to my back... especially the UK-built 4x10. I am a skinny enough guy that, realistically, I'm probably hurting my back even with good technique. So in light of the strain of moving and the strain of basic gig-to-home-to-gig transport I am thinking of getting some neo cabs.

I really like the idea of the Epifani UL series (like the UL-210). They are a bit above my budget but I think a couple of these cabs could rock it.

I hate how Markbass stuff looks but I know that plenty of folks here and elsewhere rave about the sound. But honestly, I don't want to take the stage with a bunch of obnoxious yellow stuff behind me. Subtler would be better.

There are many other brand options as well. I have been looking at Genz Benz, Euphonic, and others.

With this in mind, what would you all recommend? For reliability, for tone, for price?

Thanks...!

I agree with you about the MarkBass color scheme. Kind of hard to get with.
Are those logos on the grille removable?

I'm a huge proponent of Bag End - a pair of S15-Ds wouldn't save you huge amounts of weight, but some. I think mine are around 40 pounds each.

Josh,

Avatar cabs using Eminence Neo speakers seem to get excellent reviews - and seem reasonably cheap into the bargain...

+1 on Bag End stuff. Been using them for years. Never had an issue with any of them and I have tried most of them..

joshua- you and i seem to have similar tastes-i removed the markbass logo from the front of my combo within a few hours of getting it! (it just sticks on ,and can be restuck, which i did last month when i sold it) . i always threatened to put it on a gold chain and wear around my neck,hoodstyle,yo....anyho....markbass cabs/speakers sound really good to me...i had the walkabout/scout combo previously ,and would really like to hear the scout cabs with a little mark 2 head-possibly the best of both worlds,i'm thinking.....word

i build my own cabs and got lots of compliments. they measured 19.5"x19.5"x15.5" ported with a front mounted 15"speaker. compact and easy to move about.

That looks very similar to the Bag End S-15 cabinet; is it rear ported?
