A bit of discussion going on at another forum about 'em. They were Rickenbacker endorsers ca. 1969 and were apparently given permission to borrow instruments from the Electro-String "museum" (don't think it was much of a museum back then).

Remember - "Born to be Wild" was recorded on a Fender Esquire. Perhaps their guitarist was after the closest thing to an Esquire he could find at Electro, and happened upon the wonderful old one-pickup solidbody Combo shown here.

Wow, that is the quintessential late 60's tune.

Personal memory: Playing this tune in my band at a frat party in State College, PA (Penn State) in 1968, just after it hit the charts. Luckily we had a platform, as there was at least 1 inch of beer on the floor and by 1:00 AM everyone was doing the slide, flail and fall to "Born to be Wild."

Oh, yeah!

thanks for posting that! the 'wolf was one of my early favorite bands-had all their lps up through "for ladies only". i was a pretty clueless kid though,i showed my dad that lp innersleeve because he was a car freak,and he just handed it back to me,without comment,but clearly disgusted...... (i figured it out later... )
