Howdy kids!

I've been obsessed with SSF for a few weeks now. Through egging on by friends, I'm thinking I might wanna record it. A daunting task, I know!

I'm sick of drum machines. Everything always sounds too robotic. So, I'm looking for a drummer to record the track. Lookin for decent quality audio. Mono or stereo, doesn't matter.

That's not an easy drum part -- lots of time changes. Are you looking to do this remote or "on location"?

The "singer" plays guitar, bass, keyboard, and a little sitar, Jeff(Hence my avatar)!I know you were kidding...You were, right? LOL! Actually, I might sing on it or not. If I do, I definitely want to do the pitched-down vocal thing, as I feel it adds to the experimental experience of their track.

Ron-Looking for "remote". I realize the drumming isn't easy. I lived with a drummer for years and learned a LITTLE bit. But, my right side couldn't vary between my arm and foot. i.e. I couldn't play triplets on the ride cymbal while playing four quarter notes on the bass drum!

"Whose orchestra are you using?". Well, it's called a Korg Trinity work station! I bought it off a family member years ago. The string sounds are great! I plan on doing a straight forward recording, by that I mean, I'm not gonna deviate from the original too much. I might try to add my sitar or even a dilruba. I wanna mess around with tape(digital) speeds, backwards stuff, etc.

I realize it wont be easy. Just something fun to try out. On that note...Anyone have a mellotron or timpani??? Just kidding!

I've got a Korg X50 and can trigger my M-Tron software. I have one beef with it (the SW), though... In an effort to be Authentic, they sampled
real tapes from a Mellotron, and did not "sugar-coat" the audio warts. What does everyone want to play on Mellotron Flutes? The intro to SFF.
My problem is that one of the notes that you hold a long time has an obvious Wart that kinda ruins it for me! I was thinking, if I ever wanted
to record the intro, I'd have to skip that note. Then I would have to play the next higher or lower note, then pitch-shift it up or down a half step
to fill in the gap. On THAT intro, it would absolutely ruin the vibe with that one, scratchy note!

Also, I have played this on real Mellotrons down at the local keyboard museum. Sounds "just like the real thing!"

Alas, indeed, Brian...I would love to be able to help you out, but I'm currently busier than a Baghdad pothole-fixing crew...got a bass-playing gig tonight, a drumming gig in the mountains tomorrow night, and I have my normal five rehearsals a week. I'm presently freelance slamming on CAD houseplans for a local architect, and I'm trying to get ready to go out to SoCal in a couple of weeks to see my family. Back home in mid-July for a bunch of gigs through mid-August...if you're still in the mood to do this in the fall, maybe I could accomplish it; sure would be fun to try it. I have an Orchestron, too, but I don't know if the results would be any better than Dean's software. Dean, could you maybe edit out the 'wart' for recording purposes with GarageBand, or something similar? Seems possible...

I've got samples of my two flute patches from the M-Tron software. I just put them up on a free Rapidshare account. It only has a ten-download limit but that
shouldn't be a problem here!

Flutes intro

The first one is the MkII Flutes patch. The MkII is the model Mellotron the Beatles had at their disposal. The second simply is called Flutes. I assume this is
from the newer M400 (as used by Jonesy in Zep). I start by playing the low A so you can hear it alone. Notice the "I can hear the ocean" white-noise in the
MkII version; this is the one I was talking about spoiling the intro. Then there is an audible tick/click on the first E note in the second (M400) version. This
is on the patch; it is not me...

If someone else can host this on a website that would be great. Just post the new link for us.

Dean, that audio blew me away! I've listend to it a million times. I'm not EVEN gonna attempt it with my keyboard. If I have to pitch a note up, so be it. You're my mello guy!!! Lemme get through this week and we'll chat!
