Press Kit
Press Kit
Hi everyone. What a jerk I am. I never visit here, and then go posting asking for info.
Here goes anyways, so thanks in advance for reading.
I'd like to put a press kit together for my band. We're tired of doing lame small gigs, often acoustic. We want to do slightly bigger rock shows, all plugged in and whatnot.
Does anyone here have a press kit for their band? I googled for suggestions and found some pretty good outlines and examples. I thought I'd post here too and see what Brian and the other mavens have to say. Cheers! J

Re: Press Kit
No help on the press kit but if you haven't seen the "Rock Show" episode of Parks & Recreation you may want to watch. The band name segment may be of interest to you.

Thanks for the link. That was funny. Reminds me of a game we played here on the forum a few months back; a band name generating game. I actually saw that when it aired, by a total fluke, changing channels. I nearly soiled myself. I'm not sure if I'm ****** off they horned in on our concept, or because they didn't get our name exactly right!

Re: Press Kit
Just put together a one page band bio, an 8x10 picture, a song list, a band business card and a demo CD in an envelope.
Ka is a wheel.

Re: Press Kit
A friend of mine used to manage bands in the Tucson area. Here's her suggested press kit list:
1) One sheet of "highlights" on the band - i.e. what you've accomplished to date, and some "reference quotes" from club owners or other "industry professionals", list these with bullet points.
2) A 8x10 photo of the band with your contact info, website/email addresses and your band logo.
3) One Bio sheet or "history" of the band - how you were founded, when, by whom, what your goals are, etc.
4) Copies of any press that the band has received in the past. These can be article clippings from newspapers, or write ups, radio interviews, etc. that relate to the band.
5) A demo CD
6) A performance DVD/ or video is a nice added touch, if you have one - but should be no more than 15 minutes in length!
7) Gig poster(s)
Bullet list of past and future gigs & reprints of concert ads (newspaper, .
9) Business card for whomever is in charge of booking, outreach, interviews, etc. and it should include address, phone #'s, email and website URL
