Hmm.. Hope we are allowed to post competitor's stuff here. So, I also have a Stingray, Bongo, cheap Beatles bass copy from Rogue(which plays and sounds great, btw..)
My Ric doesn't go to gigs.. Too valuable to me..

Yes, it's just fine to talk about other brands on this forum, as long as things are kept civil, etc.

I had some other brands before I "discovered" Ricks back in the late 70's. I was working with the guys at Alembic 20 years or so ago, when I lived in Santa Rosa, CA, but gave up on that when one of their guys made the statement that it sounded like what I really wanted was an Alembic that sounded like a Rick, which they just couldn't do. Haven't looked at much else since, but I keep thinking that one of these days I'll pick up a J bass. But then again, maybe not. I do want to get a fretless some day, hopefully RIC will bring 'em back before too long...

198? Peavey Dyna Passive/Active....SUPER thin neck, not too thrilled with the sound, but nice feeling bass.
1978 Peavey T-40 natural strung with TI Jazz Flats for that old school thump. Actually, very light.
1982 Peavey T-40 Sunburst, custom made Fretless with DR Highbeams....just so damn heavy.

If you can find a Heartfield (usually on Ebay), that's been my main bass besides the Ricks since 1991. Made in Japan back in the late '80s and early '90s, sold by Fender. New, they sold for the price of a Rick, these days can be had for about $300-$600, come in 4, 5, and 6 string. Very solid, versatile, comfortable, and the price these days betrays the quality in them.

The only reason that the C64S comes in second to the Fender V, is 'cause I need the V's extended range for the type of music the bands I'm in cover.

- a Pedulla buzz fretless (long scale, active JJ pups and rounds for maximum muhwahhhh)
- my old Frankenstein fretless Gibson (short-scale - EBO neck, ebony board, walnut LP body, mudbucker neck pickup, P-Bass bridge pickup, stereo-wired with 35 year-old Guild tape-wound flats)
- a Hofner 500/1 V63 Beatle with TI Jazz Flats
- a Hofner 500/1 V63 fretless with flats still being determined (TIs, Labellas, Roto tape-wounds, old Guilds and factory flats are all in the running)
- and a mint '68 Hagstrom 8-string (short scale with TI Jazz Flats on all eight strings)

My Peavey G-Bass with carbon fibre neck is great fro road-worthiness. It always holds a tune and the 18V active pickups make it a great/quiet recording tool.
(It just isn't 'cool' or have the deeeep sound of the 'Ric.)

Sometimes i have a wild hair and feeling mellow i bring the Martin BC-15E accoustic/electric. Great tone.

My next bass (not even budgeted yet or applied for through the Budget and Finance Committee (Lovely Bride) would be a old/used/worn Music Man Stingray and a big ol' G&K stack. What a great rig! And as i expand me' style to the bang/slap it really lends itself well (I guess this is why Flea loves 'em! )

Besides my three great Rics, I have a handful of other basses not really worth mentioning. But one is, my Guild B302, had it since 1986 and won't part with it. Every bassist that's played it has made me an an offer, but no dice. Currently it is all black, but will be cherry stained mahogany soon, like this B301 from a recent auction.

Besides my 4004LK I use my '80-ish BC Rich Mockingbird. I use 'em wherever I play and just pay a little more attention when the venue is "shady". I wouldn't own anything that I'm afraid to gig with and I also no longer play gigs at places where I'm that concerned about my gear.

I did at one time own a very nice Cherry Gibson EB3 which I bought while I was awaiting delivery of my first Ric back in 1973, once my Ric arrived, I've only ever have had eyes for RIcs, and Fireglo's at that.

My band used to at one time used be sponsored by both Carvin and Fender, the nice folks at Fender gave me a Black Custom Shop Precision thingy, and a 5-st Active Jazz. I used to put them on stands on stage when we knew the Fender folks would be there, but they saw little to no use. The Carvn folks offered me just about any bass they made, but, based on the lack of playing time the Fenders got I opted not to take the Carvins.

Owning Rics has saved me a lot of unnecessary instrument gas, well non Ric gas at least !!

My "other basses are:
1. Fender Jaguar in Fiesta Red with a BadAss bridge covered by a big "F" ashtray.
2. Epiphone Blackbird with Schaller tuners, a Hipshot Supertone bridge and concentric volume controls w/o tone control.
3. TUNE TWB-63 6-string bass. I practically STOLE this bass on Ebay e few weeks ago for $370.00 including case and original hang tags! I've been playing the heck out of it with a new original project I'm working on. My 4004L5 is my backup for when my left hand gets tired of the wide neck.
