Was I the only one who saw this auction?

Post by aceonbass »

Last week I caught this Ebay auction early in on and quickly recognized the sellers error. The seller pulled the auction early, and hasn't responded to any but my first emails. Anyone here score these?

"HELLO,
I AM OFFERING THIS ORIGINAL SET OF RICKENBACKER PICKUPS FROM THE 1980'S I BELIEVE THESE WERE USED ON THE JOHN KAY MODEL 381.
1 PICKUP IS GIVING A VERY WEAK READING, BUT I MAY NOT HAVE THE WIRES HOOKED UP CORRECTLY TO THE OHM METER.
PING IS $5 IN THE USA, $10 TO CANADA BY GROUND AND $15 OVER SEAS
PLEASE E-MAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS, AND IF YOU HAVE 5 OR LESS FEEDBACK RATING , PLEASE E-MAIL FIRST FOR PERMISSION TO BID, THANKS AND GOOD LUCK!!"

A few of us saw it myself included, Dane. Tony C called Jdog the night they were listed. Jdog has a 4002 that was missing it's pick ups.

I feel bad for Woody! Owning/playing his 4002 for 11 year or so...Probably wondering what it should sound like while these pickups were nowhere in sight...Then he sells the bass and BLAMMO!!...The pick ups magically appear out of the blue!

Poor guy!

Perhaps, as a good gesture, Jdog can loan Woody the revitalized 4002 for a while, say 11 years or so? 8)

sorry ,i've been busy elsewhere! wow,yes i am liking this very charitable idea....poor poor pitiful me would just love it! mercy! nah,i'm happy you were able to find these pickups...you know when i first bought this bass ($600) i knew someone had changed the pickups and bridge for aftermarket parts, but i had no problem using the sd pickups and whatever that bridge was---it was the first rick bass i had bought since about 10 years prior to that time so i was just happy to have one again, and didn't realize till many years later it was a rare flagship model. so did ken leave the bone nut on there? (that was MY modification).....anyway just send it to memphis once you get those pickups re-installed........ 8)

The nut is something I've always wondered about. It's some kind of white-ish material, but it was covered in black paint(?) when I got it. The first year I had it I toted it around to local luthiers, trying to get the neck fixed, and in the process, one of the guys must have scratched off the black paint everywhere except down in the grooves. Does that sound like it?

yeah, bone is sorta offwhite,i like to use it on my basses--i did not paint it though, ken must have done that in his returning the 4002 to as close to the factory look as possible. i was also responsible for having the refret with heavier fretwire done.
