12 string troubles
12 string troubles
Hello all.
Had my new 330/12 for a couple of months, and dare I say it? I wasn't getting on with it too well!
I was finding it a little difficult to play and was struggling to get some sounds I really liked out of it.
So, I decided to sit down with logic and have a concerted effort to get on with this guitar. I had no plan or ideas, not even an intention of recording anything.
Anyway I came up with this, but more importantly I learned how to get on with my new guitar, we're much happier together now!

Re: 12 string troubles
Very nice, John! That 12-string sounds great.
Do you have words for your song? I caught myself humming a little melody to your piece, and the words to the chorus that came to me are right out of your title for the song, "It must be summer, It must be summer, I know it's summer, somewhere..." Somehow it has the feel of a Sixpence None the Richer song..... Anyway, I like the sound of it a lot!

Nice theme, John. And it sounds like the guitar was played copacetically! Everything sounded a bit compressed for my taste, but that's entirely subjective, of course.

Re: 12 string troubles
I think the guitar itself sounds absolutely cracking. You've captured the Rick 12 sound really well. However, I can sort of onderstand your troubles because I think the tune would probably sound better on a crunchy/driven six string. Shoe gazing on a Rick sixer a la Ride, if you know what I mean.
Good work all round though, mate.

Thanks all for the encouragement. I'm still playing with the production generally, I'm pretty happy with it overall but there is always room for another set of ears to point out something I've not heard. I'm still very new to working with logic, and still finding out something I didn't know about or know how to do almost daily.
I don't have any lyrics for any of my track on soundclick, I'm looking for people to have a go. A couple of users over there have offered and I've sent them mp3's but they haven't come up with anything yet!
copacetically What a fantastic word! I had to google that to find out what it meant. Rest assured I'll be trying to get that in to as many conversations as possible at work next week!

John that was 'excellent' Ric 12! Let it ring! Nice little tunes as well....
Re: 12 string troubles
Woah! A rare moment of RRF availability here at work!
Personally I really like the way you've treated the 12 string- very Guthrie-period Lush, or the more ethereal Pale Saints moments. Not derivitive- evocative. Just add ephemeral girly vocals!
Anyway, it's made my Monday morning more... something. Less nnnnergh...

Great tune! Would you mind sharing your settings on the 12 string? Did you plug directly into Logic or mic an amp? What plug ins did you use (if any)?
Great sound & music!

That's it. That's the sound. Nice mood piece.
