As I don't yet know how to paste a link, check out the 1966 Rickenbacker 325 on eBay. This is either a scam or someone has no idea what they are selling. Which is it......?

There are still plenty of people out there that equate Rickenbackers to Kays and price them accordingly. These are the best people to buy from.

Well, anytime you have a 60's 325 that meets it's reserve at less than $500, it will make people squirm---just like I did. LOL.

Sounds as though the guitar had a problem or playability issue, which would hurt it in the long run...so the guy did the right honest thing and pulled the auction.. I know that there were many people 'knockin' at the door' on this one....

Don't know the reason for ending the auction, and have no reason to doubt the reason stated. As well it doesn't really matter to me as I wasn't bidding nor planning to. I had just never seen that reason for ending an auction before and thought it odd. As to the issue of behind scenes action on auctions it is my belief that in some cases it does occur, some previous posting I have read on forums seem to confirm this. I can see why it would be an advantage to buyers, but kind of wonder why the seller would do so. As it seems to me they would maximize their selling price by letting the auction run its time. However not having sold anything on Ebay there obviously is some attraction to doing so. I'm sort of interested in the process as I am considering trying the "ebay sales thing" at some time.

Brian , I didn't see a response to your question yet so here is my take on Ebay. I of course am not saying that this particular auction did any of these things cause I don't know. This is just an insight of things that go on.

1. The Particular auction in question had a guitar listed that was a refin which wasn't disclosed at first and maybe had some other issues. By canceling bid the seller has time to maybe correct the problem and relist or he may have gotten a lot of heat for not revealing the refin issue up front along with other questions he wasn't prepared to answer. Now he doesn't have to pay any ebay listing /selling fees and can take the time he needs tme to increase his knowledge of instrument and/or take care of repairs.

2. People sometimes , against Ebay rules of course, accept offers from private email after correspondence through the question to seller process. They cancel auction and don't pay ebay listing and selling fees AND get their money faster by not letting auction run to completion.

3. When they contact Ebay they must give reason for ending auction to avoid fees from a multiple choice list that you pick the one that best describes what happened. Obviosly Ebay monitors this so there is not too many people who regularly sell items that end auctions early.

4. Buyers are sometimes responsible for this "pressure to sell now" as they buffalo the seller with many stories but the usual idea is "you have to make a decision tonight or I will buy another guitar tha ends tonight"
Seller panics and decides to take the deal.

As usual I may be and probably don't know what I am talking about so don't be discouraged. Try it most of the time it's cool.
