RIP Billy Mays

Post by lennon211 »

It's been quite the week...now Billy Mays, the pitchman, has passed. I'll miss his infomercials...they were always entertaining.

Good lord, I thought you might be kidding until I read the Wiki entry -- he passed away today (June 28) at age 50. He was just on Conan O'Brien last week. No real explanation yet for cause of death.

And, they're going to give him, not one, but TWO funerals for the price of one.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

I've been enjoying his show on Discovery Channel lately. Puts a whole different insight on how his business and the personalities work.

I know it. I was watching it this morning before going out for a run and then when I got back I was checking email and saw this. I figured that it had to be a mistake.

Good grief, other than as a result of a common disaster, has any other week in the history of entertainment endured such losses?

Just heard a Billy Mays commercial on the SciFi channel that's on in the other room- ran in thinking it was an obit piece on the news and no, it was just Billy Mays trying to sell me some auger to plant bulbs in the ground...

How long will they run his commercials for I wonder? It's kind of spooky.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

Billy is well known here in town, and I have a good friend who will know the lowdown here.

A peaceful passing is about as much as one can ask for...

I don't know if this had anything to do with Mays' death or not.

From the AP via The Houston Chronicle:
U.S. Airways confirmed that Mays was among the passengers on a flight that made a rough landing on Saturday afternoon at Tampa International Airport, leaving debris on the runway after apparently blowing its front tires.

Tampa Bay's Fox television affiliate interviewed Mays afterward.

"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping," MyFox Tampa Bay quoted him as saying. "It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."
RIP Billy Mays.

Yes indeed. So annoying, that you had to love him.
