Which Yes Member Lived in SoCal???

Post by Bighouse »

My father had a funny story for me once. He was a salesman for a moving company and met with a customer out at a house in the Thousand Oaks/Westlake area of Southern California. When he walked through the house he couldn't help but notice all the recording equipment and gold records and awards on the walls. My father, not into rock and roll at all, said to him "You seem like someone important- should I recognize you?" The customer laughed and said "Well, you don't but your kids might"...My father came home that day and asked if I knew a group named "Yes".

He told me, then, the guy's name but it was long ago and I've forgotten the details. Must have been in the early 80's- I got the impression it was a lead person for the band (and not an engineer, etc.), since the customer commented that he was recognizeable...anyone know where the bandmembers lived in the early 80's?
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

Brian Auger once told me that Rick Wakeman is a neighbor of his, Brian is in Venice. Jon, AFAIK, is in the SLO area on the coast.

Did Jon first settle in SLO or may he have been elsewhere early on?

The year for this story would have been somewhere around 1980 or 1981.Whoever it was, he moved from that location to a different one, whether San Luis Obispo (where I went to school!) or elsewhere.

Chris Squire isn't a frontman, but since his stature is rather gargantuan I imagine he'd be rather recognizable

Chris is 6'4" and lived in Santa Barbara for a time before moving back to London. Trevor Rabin wasn't in YES in '80-'81 and neither was Tony Kaye. That would leave Jon or Chris as the logical suspects.

I am speculating, but that kind of humorous reply and laugh smells "Fishy" :) That or Wakeman... The point is, if I am right.... there's a "RIC" in it

Actually, I seem to remember it being Wakeman at the time...but I can't be certain. Might have have lived in the North of Los Angeles area somewhere nearish the coast about then?
