Wow!I finally found a vid of Weller's 330MG!

Post by octagon »

I was always a fan of Rickenbackers since I saw the Beatles and the Byrds but I never actually saw one in person until I went to see The Jam at CBGB's Theater in 1978.I was a big fan of theirs because they played Rickenbacker and I was fully expecting Paul to have a Black Rick that night(the cover of the "In The City" LP I owned was in black and white)Anyway, when the Jam took the stage they were wearing matching camel suits and Paul and Bruce had matching "blonde" Rickenbackers. Wow!I had great seats (3rd row) so I remember this guitar vividly. It is a big reason that I am a member here today

Ever since I joined this forum I asked people about this 330MG and I have gotten a a couple a small pictures of it but tonite will surfing youtube I found this video showing the very guitar that made such a great impression on me with over 30 yrs ago.

Maybe you guys have seen this many times before but if not, enjoy

Cool! Yeah, unusual; usually if one sees Weller with a MG Rick, it's the 360/12 NS that he's used over the years.

This would make a great confluence/jam song. :D

The Jam came along during my rock'n'roll blackout period, although I'd heard their name mentioned from time to time. I actually liked this song. Also liked the way the band presented themselves on stage.

Cool video..........love the 60's jackets and hairdo's too. Recycled fashion always seems to work just as well the second or third time around. 8)

Weller's style went/goes hand in hand with his musical influences. :D

Good Question!

It's discussed here, but it's incomplete: http://www.rickresource.com/rrp/jam.html

Burgandyglo
White
Jetglo w/white pg/trc,
Jetglo w/black pg/trc-supposedly the same guitar-I've seen two versions of this; one with the "R" tailpiece, another with a gibson stop style tailpiece
Fireglo 21 fret with "I am nobody" scratched into upper bout, recently purchased by our very own Graham Griffiths
Fireglo 24 fret
Mapleglo
1997 RM 330, as seen in the "News of the World" video
***IIRC, the pop art refinished "Whaam" guitar is the JG/WT model that was refinished after suffering a headstock break, or something of that sort.

One post on the RRF link above mentions Ruby, but I think the poster might be referring to the BG guitars seen in in the video. Am I missing it? Anyone?

Great example of how Weller earned his "Modfather" tag.

Chicken in basket. My favorite Jam clip love that one its up with the live footage from The Tube.Anyway here is a small excerpt from an interview.
PW: All my heroes seemed to play Rickenbackers, like The Beatles and Pete Townshend. It was just apeing my heroes. I thought it was a great-looking guitar and still do. I got my first one at 16. It was amazing. I used to sleep with it beside my bed.
well weve all been there................
