Nachos for the 4th, while everyone's waiting for BBQ
Nachos for the 4th, while everyone's waiting for BBQ
Here's an easy recipe, and one that everyone will enjoy..
If you have a Trader Joe's near you:
Salted Tortilla Chips,
Chunky Salsa.
Mexican Shredded Cheese Mix...
Pile a nice load of chips on a plate, put a generous amount of the chunky salsa on top, then cover with the shredded cheese. Put in the microwave for two minutes. I cover with a plastic cover I got from BB&Y. Best and simplest nachos you ever had. Guaranteed

One of the few things I miss about Los Angeles are the Trader Joes. What a killer place!

Happy Birthday America!
...with some authentic Mexican food! Arriba!
don't forget the obligatory cervezas, por favor. They do go well with nachos and a twist o lime.

Thanks, Greg!

Joe Coulombe started TJ's in Pasadena, and his original store is still there on Arroyo Parkway. He did his own radio commercials, too, until the mid-'80s or so. He's still around affiliated with Cost Plus.
In 1987, when I lived briefly in central Virginia, one of the things I missed was TJ's. Fortunately, now they're US-ubiquitous.

Do they have a fourth of July outside the US?

Sure they do, but it's only a holiday for us Yanks.marc61 wrote:Do they have a fourth of July outside the US?

The correct answer is, "No, everywhere else, they just jump from the 3rd to the 5th!"marc61 wrote:Do they have a fourth of July outside the US?
Well, they are nowhere to be found near here... What a surprise, huh?jingle_jangle wrote:Joe Coulombe started TJ's in Pasadena, and his original store is still there on Arroyo Parkway. He did his own radio commercials, too, until the mid-'80s or so. He's still around affiliated with Cost Plus.

I did like TJ's when I lived in So. Cal. in the early 80's

Great thing about TJ's is that their stores are known for the wide aisles and easy access to certain (especially dairy) sections. Never any trouble with people parking their shopping carts in front of the cheeses and deliberating for ten minutes between low fat double smoked gloucester with chives and slow churned Irish goat yogurt cheddar. Now that they have decided to sell produce, you have to make deft zig zag manuevers around those organic Chilean Kiwis and inconveniently stacked 12 packs of cheap, water down 2 buck "Simpler Times" beer that wisely, no one purchased (I wasn't so wise). Also, the fact that their bread has 0 preservatives in it forces you to wolf down an entire loaf in roughly 36 hours before it gets covered in mold. I guess they want to make sure you get all that good fiber from their rustic sheepherder's sourdough bread with raisins.
At least, this is the normal experience I have at my local store when I go there every weekend...

They don't have 'em here, either. Wayang's Kansas Museum can probably tell you why.cjj wrote:The correct answer is, "No, everywhere else, they just jump from the 3rd to the 5th!"marc61 wrote:Do they have a fourth of July outside the US?
