Comparison 330 and 360

I'm concerned about the string spacing of the 330. I'm thinking of picking up one of the bargain 330's from Musicians Friend for rhythm-playing/strumming; the price is great but am concerned the width might not be wide enough for me.

I play bass, have a couple 4003's but also record so have a bunch of instruments.,
I have a # of wide neck acoustics, a Martin OM21 + D18GE; I also have a a slot head Larrivee, SD-60.

The only electric I already have is a Rick 660/12 (really like it) & I also have a 650D Dakota on order, I expect to get that soon.

Is the string spacing a problem for you folks that have 330's (or 360's) if you have one but you otherwise own wider string spacing guitars?

I'm not really talking about nut width, but string spacing. I guess I'm more concerned about the picking hand (right hand spacing). I'm thinking it may be great for strumming, but I don't want it to be so narrow that all I can do with it is strum, might want to fingerpick it, is it really tight?

I hope I'm being clear, I've read a lot this weekend about 330/360's but cannot decide if i want to spring for it.

Were we separated at birth?

I'm a bassist that dabbles in guitar too, and I'm also sensitive to neck width. I have a 660/12 and a Dakota that fit me to a T.

I've tried to get along with 330s and 360s, but I just can't live with the narrower neck. I can't do Strats or Teles, either; my SG, barely.

I sold my Dakota to a friend who had a 360 because he found it difficult for fingerpicking, and he likes it a lot better. I don't know about string spacing, but I find my 330/12 so much easier to chord without muting strings than my old 370/12.

I play a 4004, a 360, a 370/12 and a 650C. Plus a few Fenders and Ovations. I've got just about every string spacing imaginable. To me the 360 and 370 have the same feel as my Fenders; slim and smooth, great for chording. The 650 is pretty wide and really good for picking and lead work. A friend of mine who is purely a bass player loves my 650...go figure!
As you're right outside of Philly, you're not too far away from Pick Of the Ricks. Why don't you just take a ride across the bridge (Lindenwold, NJ) and try one out. I'm not sure how much MF is selling 330s for these days but Chris Clayton at POTR just might be able to make it worth your while to stop by his shop in person. There's nothing better than actually playing the guitar you want prior to buying it.

thanks for all replys, i decided to hold off on the 330 until i can pick one up & play it.
Hey ken, excellent choices!, a 660/12 & a 650D, i expect to get my dakota soon, that might help to calm the gas i've got for the 330, i'll resist and not buy anything at this time.
actually i'd *really* like a 330 or a 360 with a wider neck, anybody listening???

I have noticed two small differences on the 330 and 360. The 330 has the larger lower bout, so if you like to sit and strum it will rest on your lap more easily. It also seems the 330 has more resonance/echo. i think John Hall said there is more cavity space in the 330's.

I have never used the stereo sound on the 360. The 360 triangle inlays are nice. If I could only have one of them I'd probably get the 330 but they are both great guitars.

What's involved in setting up a boot? I mean, do you stand it up on a table or shoe rack, and does it easily fall down so you have to hang out all darned day in case it tips over?

I suppose a lot depends on how heavy the sole and heel are and how tall the boot is...something like Barbarella wore would definitely need help standing up for a whole day, whereas my old school black leather motorcycle boots pretty much stood up on their own endlessly...

...which was also the case with the socks I wore with them.
