Guitar wiring - Newbie needs help!

Post by sashua »

Hey there all!

I want to put a 4 pot 50's reproduction loom made by Glenn Lambert into a custom creation of mine but know very little about guitar wiring.

This is a "Rickenbacker Style" guitar but made by a custom shop. I have two leads coming from each toaster pickup, one is black and one is white. Currently the black lead is soldered to the back of one of the existing pots and the white lead is going to the center tab on the same pot but this guitar does not use original Rickenbacker parts so I didn't want to just follow the same example on the replacement loom without asking the question. There is also a single green lead coming from the back of the bridge pickup into the cavity (not attached to anything).

So what do I do here for wiring?
1. Where does the black lead from each pickup go (which pot and where, tone or volume)?
2. Where does the white lead from each pickup go (which pot and where, tone or volume)?
3. What do I do with the open ended green lead? Attach it to anything or leave it floating in the cavity?

Sorry for the newbie questions but I am new to guitar wiring.

Thanks!

Hi Russ!

Here is the RIC schematic link - http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19507.pdf Since you didn't mention a switch, the wiring will be a tad different.

1. Solder the black wires to the appropriate volume pot body.
2. The white wire from the toasters will need to go to both the volume and tone pots for each pickup. Solder it to the center tab on the volume pot, then solder the .047uF cap to the same tab the white wire went to. Do this for each toaster to the appropriate volume pot.
3. The green wire will no doubt be a ground for the bridge pickup - solder it to a ground (pot body).

Let me know if you need more clarification.
