Hybrid of a different color

Post by rickfan60 »

We often see Rickenbackers butchered to accept pickups made by other companies, most frequently Fender pickups. Here is a different and less common twist on that general topic (as posted on the Alembic Club). Here, a Precision Bass was fitted with Rickenbacker parts including a pickguard!

It's like one of those ambiguous figures. You either see one or the other but never both at the same time.

Actually the P Bass body is similar enough to make it look a lot like a Ric body, with the pickguard and pickup.

I know you guys must hate the monster but I think it's kinda cute!

I see it more as a curiosity than an aberration as it would likely be one of the rarest mods anyone has ever made to a Fender.

C'mon a pig? The venerable P-Bass deserves a bit more consideration than that! Show Messers Fender and Fullerton due respect here.

I hear ya Ted.

In fact, I'd be real interested in hearing this bass. Will it sound like a P, a Rick, or something altogether different??

I think it would sound more like a Rick than a Fender, kind of ugly though huh? Lot's of Fender haters here? Entwistle did get a lousy sound at Live At Leeds didn't he?
How are you doing Ted? Long time. Actually you too John.
